I learned how to cane chairs and weave reed seats over 50 years ago as a child growing up in Columbia, MO, as I earned my Basketry Merit Badge in Boy Scouts.  Over the years I broadened my horizons in this pasttime by figuring out how to install cane webbing and how to weave fibre rush seats, Danish cord seats, and Shaker tape in various patterns and how to cane chairs in 7 different patterns.  Now retired in Titusville, FL, with my lovely wife, Joan, I have more free time I can spend on my artistic expression through this delightful cottage industry.
